MY BLOG:

August 1, 1914

Germany has offically declared war on us and we are ready for anything they will throw at us. France is mobalizing to help us defeat them in this war, I don't really like that word war, it even sounds bad like something is going to happen that nobody is expecting. I don't even think we should be defending Serbia they did have Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sophie killed because of a little land argument and because of the Slavic people that are being ruled by Austria-Hungary in unfair conditions. Yes I know that the czar and other powerful Russian leaders believe that we should defend other Slavic nations but I do not believe that we should be going to war for them, especially against Germany. Yes we have a million more soliders than they do but they have better weapons and other machines that can take us down easier than we can take them down. My battalion is heading to Allenstein to fight against the Germans today and I am exhusted from all the walking. The move from Moscow to Allenstein is tedious and very long because we do not have the proper means of transportation so all of us soliders must walk the very long way while carrying all our supplies and weapons. The less experienced officers must carry the bigger loads so I am considered lucky and I am very thankful that my father had me join the Russian army before the war. The other men from my battalion are just now setting up our tents for the night while I snuck out to write I need to head back before they notice my absence and tell our commander.

I have not written for so long because of the war. With everyone around me dying and all the battles we are losing and yet all the fighting we are doing I have not been able too. I never imagined that I would have to spend Christmas away from my sweet Irina and I have only gotten one letter from her and it was very short and just told of how much she misses me. Christmas here with the guys was nothing like with my Irina but at least we got good food and a break in the bombing we had another Christmas truce between us and Germany we even came up with a Christmas song. It has started snowing again and I must get back into the dugout before all of the trenches are covered in snow and it is unsafe to walk around.

Our Czar has stepped down and another man called Lenin has taken over and we are still waiting to hear if he will try to industralize Russia. We have lost battle after battle at Allenstein and we have lost more soliders than we now have. Germany has killed them and now we are on the run. With how bad it is I amazingly still have a gun but I ran out of ammunition during our last battle and now a group of us are going back to Russia because of not having food or proper medical supplies. I am lucky I am not wounded or hurt yet, but the way things are going the rest of us don't have that much longer till we are badly hurt or end up with our heavenly father. I am missing Moscow and Irina very badly and am very happy to be going back it is just taking longer than expected so I still fear that we are in serious danger. Irina has been writing to me and it sounds like Moscow is very different now that the war is going on, she said she is running out of food and money and has had to rent out rooms in our home to other women who have had to move into the city. I have written her back a lot but cannot send them till a postman cames to Allenstein and that is usually just once every few months. We are starting to get back to walking so I must be going.
